: The infamous blackout occurred, I believe, in November '65. I was working at the Wall Street Journal at the time. Walked down seven flights of stairs in pitch black to emerge in pitch black lower Manhattan streets. Walked over Brooklyn Bridge--incredible sight, with all of lower Manhattan blacked out and silhouetted against a full-moon sky. Amazing. Climbed on back of bus near A&S, wound up on Atlantic Avenue, hitched a ride to Utica Avenue, and walked home to Rockaway Parkway and Church Avenue, which was home at the time. All the while, had close to $1,000 in pocket to pay for upcoming vacation!
THANKS FOR THE UPDATED YEAR. I WAS A FRESHMAN IN JEFF NOV '65 GOING OUT WITH WALT STEINHANDLER. HE GOT OFF THE BUS ON PENN. AVE TO GO HOME TO STANLEY AVE.
