I seem to remember the ice cream men of ENY better than I remember most of my old teachers. They were real celebrities of the neighborhood, tied in with a lot of fond summertime memories.
" Its good,its yummy it'll tickle your tummy" shouted my all time favorite,Jerry aka YaYa . What a great guy he was. At the end of the day he would come into 273 park and conduct races for free ice cream. He also had a great fued with the Good Humor man of the day whom he called Farty Marty.
Before Jerry there was Johnny's junkwagon.He rode around on one of those bicycle wagons selling ice cream before he got a truck. His father also worked the neighborhood. I also remember Hi Al who was the first to sell ices in a cup (the kind you scrape with a wooden stick).
There were so many others-Good Humor Men,Carvel,Mister Softee, etc.
Hope this brought back some memories
