: I tried one day to explain punch ball to a friend from Maine. She never heard of it and didn't understand why we would play such a silly game. Did they not want us to play softball because of fear of arming a new gang with bats? Or were they worried about us breaking windows?
ALOT OF THOSE GAMES WE PLAYED WERE DERIVED FROM THE THHIRTIES, WHEN PEOPLE HAD LITTLE MONEY, SO THE INVENTED WAY TO PLAY WITH WHAT THEY HAD. SKELLY BEING A PERFECT EXAMPLE. WE PLAYED PUNCH BALL, BECAUCE IT WAS PASSED DOWN TO US, AS PART OF OUR N.Y. HERITAGE.
