I lived on Vermont St. and bought ice cream from Hi Ya Al all the time. He had black hair and a thin black moustache. This was around 1954-1960. Around 1965 I was with some friends at the Paradise Bar, downtown, and saw him sitting at the bar. I walked right up to him and said, "Hi Ya Al" and he looked quite surprised. And he didn't look one day older than I remembered him. DON'T YOU JUST HATE PEOPLE LIKE THAT?
