: Does anyone remember PS 273 with passionate gratitude and fondness, as I do? Remember Dr. Nevins, the aristocratic and paternal principal; the exciting Mr. Stephan Fischer, 4th grade & science teacher, who made me stand on my head to demonstrate peristaltic action (yes, the sandwich did go UP to my stomach); the beautiful and nurturing Mrs. Bloch, 2nd grade teacher; the crazy Mrs. Edleman, kindergarten teacher, who played a mean piano. We were so lucky to have this school and its dedicated faculty.
Yes, I remember much about P.S. 273 and could probably spend weeks
reminiscing about the 2 1/2 years I spent there.
I remember Dr. Nevins. As a matter of fact, I used to like
to imitate his W.C. Fields-type way of speaking.
In fact, I discovered a reel-to-reel tape last year
dating back thirty years--of me, making fun of Dr. Nevins
and some teachers. (I had it transferred to a cassette
and played it for friends.) I had Miss Gunther,
Miss Schumacher and Mrs. Levin (aka Zanana).
