It's been some time since I looked through this site. I'm still amazed and pleased to see all the names of the people we grew up with. This site is a gift. I lived in 195 Cozine from 1957-67, then moved to Fairfield Towers. I went to PS 213 and was in the 1st grad. class at 306. Went to Gershwin, Jeff., then Canarsie for one yr. before moving to SCA, where I have lived since 71. A happy and healthy yr. to all. David Goldstein, Ph.D.

Wow, do all the memories flood back...I lived at 215 Wortman Avenue, PS 213'64, Gershwin 3 Yr SP '67 and then off to Long Island. Rabbi German, the Noshary, the Y, Boy Scout Troop 220, Bella Pizza, the "swamps", Linden Houses. Some may remember my father, Stephen "Mr. Science" Fischer, who taught science on those TV's they wheeled into our classrooms. I see names I haven't seen in years. And, a special memory, for a special teacher...Rhoda Olanoff. Those of you in "My Fair Lady" (Gershwin '67) understand. It's a good feeling. I live on Long Island now, and am a practicing veterinarian. If anybody remembers me, or wants to drop a line, I'm at PINWIRE@aol.com. Thanks for the memories.

I shall make sure not to visit any sites advertised, or use any services offered. This is a community site, and I find the crass commercialization of it repulsive. By the way, if anybody is interested in buying the brooklyn bridge...also, I have some used pencils for sale, really cheap, lead not included. Read my latest novel, adventures in advertising. Finally, I am giving free fungoo karate lessons for only 50 bucks a lesson.

I'm glad that we're all back. I graduated TJHS in '63. I lived at 546 Snediker Avenue, between Newport and Riverdale, one block from the Snediker Avenue Park. So many wonderful memories from back then. Remember the Supreme Theatre, The Biltmore Theatre, Fortunoffs, Sol's Ice Cream, Nino's Pizza, the YM&YWHA, the BBC, Coney Island Joes,Pack 48, Troop 48, Colony Bowl, Seaview Lanes, the Bataway on Pennsylvania Ave, across from Carvel,Bressners Appliances, the New Lots Talmed Torah, the Williamsburgh Savings Bank, PS 190, Gershwin, Izzy the Kinish Man,the New Lots 7th Ave line, the Canarsie line, taking the trolly on Church Avenue. Probably the fondest memories I have are spending time with a great bunch of friends, participating in Rhoda Olanoff's shows at Gershwin as well as the instrumental music departments at both Gershwin and Jefferson with such teachers as Carol Kostyak, Ed Greenberg, Jack Levine and Takaru Iijima. These are all wonderful memories that only someone from ENY could appreciate. If you remember me, let me hear from you.

It has been well over a year since I last signed in and now that I see there was a reunion this past August I will have to be here more often to keep up. Didn't see too many of the friends I was talking to a year or two ago who grew up in the late 50' and early 60's in the Linden Projects. I am probably one of the few who gets to the area on a regular basis since my Real Estate office is on the corner of Flatlands Ave and Ralph Ave. It is amazing how every time I drive down Van Siclen , wortman, flatlands or cozine how I can still see all of us hanging out. Whether it is the circle, or by Fairfield Towers there were so many hangouts that we could spend an entire night stopping by each for a while just to hang. Remember the Stanley River, before it was paved when they were still finishing the buildings at Linden Projects? If any of you would like a picture of your building as it is now I would be happy to send it. Best to all and hope to see you at the next reunion

Wow!!! What a blast from the past, reading familiar names on this board rekindles memories and images of peoples faces and places. I went to PS 273 5-1, and 6-1 classes, Mrs. Baron, Mrs. Brunitsky, Mr. Diamond, 3 year sp at Gershwin, remember Chorus and Mdme. West's french classs, and more; and lived on Ashford Street 1965-69. Familiar names seen here -- Barry Rubinstein, Stuart Podhaizer, Lawrence Karl, Steven Parness - lived across the street. Hebrew school with rabbi Germain, kunda, and Zizken - can still hear his voice correcting haftorah lessons... Wonder if Howard Teichner has entered this site, still have his baseball cards won from playing colors ;-) Regards, Seymour Minzter.

Doubt they have the places where people grew up on the masterlist, and I have yet to see a master list of the missing, have you. They list plane casualties, and they list the known dead --but a master list of the missing with official stamp of approval? I haven's seen it, have you?

I had a great time at the reunion meeting old friends- thanks Steve Lang and other organizers. I was sorry I got there so late and missed some people. It was really great to see Al Miller and Donna after all these years- I remember you guys fondly; wished I had more time to talk to Steve Lang and Johnny Millman; Stephen Levine seems to be doing great; and Ira Fischer it took a second but I did recognize you and Ronda- damn, I know you since first or second grade and you remembered the great rock fight-my brother said he knows where Bruce's brother is if that would help; Joel Berlinski- you look great, Barry Messer and Frank, and Yussi's sister: I hope your bro can make the next one, if there is another. Okay, as usual I am talking too freakin' much, so I'll put it to rest. Oh yeah, hold your pits, one more thing: Jeff Angelson, where the hell were you man: really was hoping you could make it-been way too long, but maybe next time. Don't be so cheap, and give a call you old bonehead. Aright, that's more an enuff from me. Later. Blander.

HI there, Went to PS190, lived at Williams and Newport Aves, child of Al and Lillian, sibling to Marcia, parents then moved us to the row houses on Hendrix St, just down from the sewage treatment plant. Ahh the aroma of freshly treated sewage. I then was registered at PS 273 I attened Gershwin JHS, but graduated in the 8th grade (June 67) and went to Brooklyn Tech graduated in '71. Attended the new synaguoge that has since become a baptist church. I hung out with David and Steven Tessenholtz, Micheal and Jay Goodman, Larry Maxon, and Richard Singer, Bob Greenberg, and his girlfriend Hallie. Other friends included Martin Greenberg who lived in the Linden houses, the 14 story building, and Rebecca Yoswein, who lived next door to me her father was an assemblyman, and Joyce Weisman who I shared class with in Gershwin . If any one knows the whereabouts of any of these people please write to me. I presently reside in southern NJ, and also appear quite different then my growing up years. And my name wasn't Randi in those days but is was Robert. I found this site when someone told me about it and reading all those posting brings back quite some memories.

I lived on Lincoln Pl. in Brownsville. I attended P.S. 156 in the mid 40's then on to P.S. 252..Somers.. and finally to Jeffererson HS. I remember the 40's in Brownsville as a friendly place where everyone knew each other and no one had any fears of the streets at night. My father used to send me to the Loew's Pitkin theater late on Saturday nights to get the Daily News and Mirror Sunday editions and read the funnies before i went to bed. That was always a treat. In the summer, we slept with doors and windows open on the ground floor. I married Martin Winowitz while he was in the navy. We lived in Virginia, and after divorce, I moved back to Brooklyn, East 53rd St. for a time, then back to Virginia, remarried and now live here in beautiful warm Georgia. I would like to contact Caroline Bloom who live on E. New York Ave. and Phyllis/Terri who lived on Saratoga Ave. Anyone remember the roller skating on w/e's at the Eastern Parkway arena?

Steve Lang here. Since the reunion, I learned of the deaths of David Lowenthal and Janice (Meisner) Sandell. I became tight with each of them after I left the neighborhood. Dave and I lived arouind the corner from one another on Ocean Avenue in 71. We spent many a night hanging out, philosophising on the state of the world until wee hours of the morning. I then moved to Newkirk Avenue. Janice and Freddy lived around the corner. So did Gary Glanzman. I remember hanging with Janice and Frddy on their stoop, she feeding their infanbt son. She'd cook something up for me ebery now and then too. We'd talk about the past, the future, whatever. I joined the carnival business in 1976 and started travelling. I never saw Dave again. I saw Janice one in the mid 80's. I had just started a trucking business and was making a delivery in Park Slope. Janice and Freddy had just bought a brownsti=one on the block I was delevering to. So many others of us have passed, too many. Damn, they were all too young to die.

Linden Houses was great wasn't it? How odd that the B20 goes a different route but still ends up at the former TSS. The Green Bus route was 21 or 21A I'm not sure. There was a spanking new(as of 1960's)synagogue near Linden Blvd going east(possibly at Spring Creek)-it was NOT the one at New Lots and Penn! I live in Brownsville now out of financial neccessity-my house in Bensonhurst got sold in 1998. I have great repsect for ENY/Linden Houses but I no longer pass by there. However on the 10th I am going to Seatlle by way of LA, so that means taking the B15 bus from Flushing Avenue J line to Termainal 6 at JFK, so I'll pass thru ENY again! Hooray!!!

Hi Alicia again it's been a long time since I signed but I wanted to ask about bus routes. What is this 13 bus that went thru Pitkin? I thought the 14 did! And what was the bus route number that went on Linden Blvd in front of Manufacturers Hanover to TSS? As I remember there was an appliance store on Linden on that route going East. And I remeber the Green Bus route that went to Rockaway just short of Playland I think it was the 21 or something. Also I remember in 1967 going to see Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs at a theater on New Lots that was bricked up eventually (of course). And there was a spanking new synagogue that opened in 1965-probably not used now! I have a Brooklyn street guide from 1962-with map! Remember the Geographia ones? The B83 went down Penn then turned at Linden then went up Vermont and turned at Wortman-until 1972. Then it went up Penn to Wortman. Now it turns at New Lots and goes up Van Siclen to Starrett City. The B20 goes to Penn and Wortman and turns there. Did any of you young 'uns ride the trains to Playland or 168st Jamiaca? Or the Myrtle el? Forgive me but I am a real subway fanatic. Anyway answers to my queries would be appreciated:)

It seems that the thread for the 8.4.01 picnic reunion in the message center has disaapeared. Since so many of you have asked me about the picnic, I'm going to post the information here. The picnic will be on 8.4.01, rain or shine, at Field 2, Hecksher State Park in Long Island. To get to the park, you take the Southern State Parkway East to the end and get on Hecksher State Parkway (which is really the entrance to the park). Follow the signs for field 2. There will also probably be hand painted signs directing you to the ENY picnic. We've arranged for the excllusive use of a roofed pavillion, which wil come in handy in case it rains. From what I see, it looks like there will be quite a few old ENYers at the picnic. If you need any more info, please feel free to contact me.

I graduated from "Gersh" in 1992. I went on to attend Brooklyn Technical High School and graduted in 1996. I then went to Bryn Mawr College and graduated in 2000 with a B.A. in Mathematics and Spanish Literature. Currently, I am a Financial Analyst with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia. I would love to hear from people who remember me. One of my most vivid memories is of band rehearsal with Ms. Hockaday. Mr. Jernigan left the school a few months before graduation. As a result, Ms. Hockaday worked long hours with us to ensure that our graduation performance would go smoothly. Mr. Frank was my favorite history teacher and Ms. Gopen was my favorite English teacher. Ms. Nermeroff was my seventh grade homeroom teacher (class 703). I was in the Challenge program, a magnet program. I haven't been back to visit since graduation. Maybe I'll go back someday soon.

Hey, Hey ------ Here it is Memorial Day in the year Twenty O'One and I'm having memorials in my mind to my memorable past. How's that for 60's beat speak? I'm still living here in Northern New Jersey and now can claim that the rest of my Linden Houses family have now all settled, and it was'nt planned this way, in The lovely Garden State. I've been here about 15 years, ever since meeting my wife and now have a wonderful eight year old daughter of my very own in addition to 2 wonderful step-kids, who will soon hopefully see the vistas of Wortman Avenue and environs,as soon as we make a trek to that part of the ancient world. My Mom and Dad (Irv and Shirl), snowbirds just up from Florida, have settled in Middlesex County, along with others of their time and my sister, Robin, has also just settled south of here with her family. Amazing. We've been all over the place since leaving B'klyn, but am happy to have returned to the wilderness of our youth. As a matter of fact, we all made a trek to the beautiful borough a few months ago to partake in that county's wonderous cheescake palace. We've also managed recently to make contact with some of the good ol' guys and gals from them olden days with much celebration and would love to continue these connections with those of you who wish to join in the fun. Meaning........ I'd love to hear from any of you'se who would love to contact me. Here's looking forward to new meetings with old friends and neighbors.

Correction to my previous post- I actually graduated Gershwin in '71; World Series memories threw me off. I remember listening to the games in fall of '69, which was when I started 7th grade, making that school year end in '70. Also remember Mr. Fiore running out into the hall to get score updates from Mr. Sklar's class. I was reading posts last night and saw someone mention Florie Weinberg, my upstairs neighbor in the Fairfield Garden apts, and Thea and Glenn Yurgel, who are my cousins. Florie moved to Far Rockaway shortly before we did in '71; she was also my neighbor in Rockaway. She, her sister Helene, and her parents moved to California around the time I did, in the late '70s. I spoke to Helene briefly around that time and have not heard from her since then. She lived in Sonoma, and had had a daughter the year before. Thea is a public school teacher, and as anyone who knew her may remember, her unique personality has made her a very successful and sought-after reading instructor for at-risk children. She lives in NC and has 2 children. Glenn lives on LI (we call him the mogul), where he is a contractor, and has three kids (!) who are all grown. His oldest is 24 and his youngest is 20. All wonderful people. They will all be descending on my house this Thanksgiving. If anyone remembers Glenn's friend Sherwin, he is a math teacher at Brooklyn Tech, and has a sweet little boy, 6 years old. Anita Filosa, my best friend who lived in Fairfield Towers, are you out there?

I was amazed to come upon this website! It is just wonderful. I lived in ENY on Flatlands Ave in the Fairfield garden apartments, attended 5th and 6th grade at PS 306 in '67 and '68, and was in the SP1 class at JHS 166 from '69-'70. Mrs. Krieger (who's looking fabulous, BTW) was my 9th grade algebra teacher. She scared me (and others) witless, but I had one of the highest scores on the Regent that year! At Gershwin, I remember Mr. Meskin, the greatest English teacher who ever lived, Mr. Fiore for Social Studies, Mrs. Woods for PE, Mr. Seidenstein for French, Mr. Hecht, the fearless dean, and so many others. My kids don't believe my Brooklyn stories, but I've been writing them down for posterity. I remember pheasants and carnivals in the vacant lots where Starrett City now stands, ring-a-levio, stoopball, and the best bagels in the world. I had many friends in the projects. ENY was my baptism of fire in the real world; those were volatile times and I learned many lessons, in school and out. Warm greetings to all!

Its been awhile since I wrote but I must say that the loyality amongst ENY'ers is quite amazing. I don't think there is or was another neighborhood like it. I'm proud to have grown up there (748 Miller Avenue) and I'll always call it home.

I would like to thank all who sent emails regarding my posts. As I pointed out I was unpopular the whole time I lived at Linden Houses 1963-1974 but I loved the PROJECTS, not necessarily the people. Forgive me of that sounds cold, but I've always been a bit of a loner and a bladder problem from 1975-1995 sealed my fate(happily that ended with a hysterectomy). I must be very tolerant or forgiving or plain LOCO(well I am schitzo…). For example my mother kicks herself for moving us there! How can that be when I hated LEAVING there? It's a positive reflection and a credit to her that I loved Linden Houses. How do you think I moved back to the projects on my own, even if it's not Linden Houses(I can compromise!) Everybody here thinks I'm a white girl who got off a Greyhound bus but I tell them about ENY and Linden Houses and auotmatically I have an edge! I don't recognize any of the names here since everyone appears to have settled in the 1950's. It would blow my mind if someone read these archives and recorgnized my name! I still await the time ENY will be "good" again(it's already good now!)and we can ALL move back there-brothers and sisters in a racially MIXED neighborhood! Thanks and have a blessed 2001! Alicia

just returned home from ny and want to share my experience with all my eny brothers and sisters. after finding some of my best friends on this website i decided to make a trip up to ny just to have my own mini reunion. got together with michael lapadula (we were BEST friends for many years), robert and gary carosella and bruce monahan. stayed 1 night with michael and his beautiful family on long island. we all reminiced about the "old days" ....the good and the bad, and it was like we never missed a beat although 25 years had passed. what an incredible blessing it is to have this site and be able to renew relationships with my lifelong brothers. the time that we grew up in eny was a time of change and revolution and we shared and experienced so much in those formative years TOGETHER.then 1 day everyone was gone... on thier own personal trek thru life. how lucky we are to be able to see how we all turned out and share the memories, love and of course the tears for our brothers and sisters who DIDNT make it. i am eternally grateful for this experience and feel blessed to be a part of this community.

Ellen: I most certainly remeber Mitch Kaufman, we weren't really friends, we traveled in different circles but I lived in 7400 and hung around with some of the guys in 7800. Also Mitch played 2 hand touch football with us in the courtyards between the bldgs. I believe he also graduated in 1970. We might of had some classes together but not sure. This world is getting smaller.

Hi Mark-- My ex-husband lived in the Jimerson Co-ops on Linden Blvd across from Colony Bowl. Then his family moved to Rockaway Beach and they lived at 7800 Shore Front Parkway. His younger brother Mitchell went to Far Rockaway High and played football for them. His name was Mitch Kaufman. I'm not sure what year he graduated, but I think it was about 1970..check your yearbook. Thanks--Ellen

This last message really stirred my heart. My former father in law worked on Saturday nites at the bialy store on Linden Blvd across from 213. The diner on Pennsylvania Ave was the Galaxie Diner, the Jewelry store was Witte Jewelers, (last known in Cedarhurst) the beauty parlor in the Penn Mall (outside) was Sams. They were originally on New Lots Avenue near the library. My beautician from there later on wound up working at Vidal Sasoon in Manhattan, where my $6.00 haircut now became $60.00 by the same girl! On the corners of Livonia and Pennsylvania were a kosher deli, Metricks, and the drugstore. The pharmacy was originally called Ruvinsky, then Beerman. The name was changed to Livonia Pharmacy in 1972 when my ex-husband and I bought it. He ran that pharmacy until last summer, when it was finally sold. Talk about roots. In a way, I never left ENY and ENY has never left me. The red house next to the bank on New Lots and Penn. Ave. was where my girlfriend Trina lived and all of us used to go there when we cut class because her mom worked. What incredible memories come flooding back, because of a message posted by someone I've never even met. Thank you so very much. Ellen

I too am upset at the rantings of Derrick Bonner but rest assured I have been hearing this kind of talk LONG before I left East New York. In 1985 I was working as a messenger.I lived in Midwood by then. When I mentioned I lived in ENY one person said "That's a bad neighborhood." I took it to say because it;'s a bad neighborhood (which it's not) that I'm a bad person(which I'M not-and my father was still beating me then!).I wanted to slug the guy! As for here in Seth Low, I was called white bitch because I COULDN'T hold the elevator for two black girls-my arms were full. Tried emailing Derrick but Yahoo told me that it wasn't a real address. Also there was a misunderstaning.Sam & Dave did NOT appear at Linden Park. Only Sam Moore did-Dave Prater is dead. But I will point out that the late Gene Rayburn appeared there probably 1968.He was the game show host of Match Game and my first crush! Does anybody remember Kentucky Fried Chicken on Stanley Ave or the drugstore or the beautyparlor?I remember on VanSiclen a bakery. On Linden& Van Sicklen-a Chinese restaurant. On Penn,a bagel store, restaurant, kosher meat place, optometrist, jeweler. I agree about the sense of community. To me the area was like Springfield on "The Simpsons"-a village that had everything! You don't find that today! Remember the tennis courts on Penn&Livonia before it became PS13? Who lived in that red house on Penn&New Lots before it became abandoned? When did Williamsburg Savings Bank on Penn&NL go out of business? And the Yeshiva there? I remember Chase Manhattan on Penn&Cozine before it moved to Van Siclen. I went to the ENY Baptist Church but it was in Brownsville!BARELY remember Fortunoff-it's now a moving company. I do remember a diner at Penn&Livona but now it's a grocery store. Sad to report Livonia Pharmarcy has gone out of business after 40+ years.Their signs have been out there for as long as I can remember! OK I;m finished now and remember-chin up! Alicia Martuge

Its been a long time since I signed in. I just wanted to say 'hi.' I lived at 190 Wortman, and went to 213, Gershwin and then Jeff (class of '67). I still think a lot about the old days. I guess the reason for everyone's nostalgia is not so much that the times were great - I remember plenty of unhappiness - but that there was a real sense of community, something that one doesn't find anymore. Or at least I haven't. Except maybe right here. Best wishes to you all!

If you go to the open board messages and scroll down to September, 2000, there is a message posted by Derrick Bonner. Nowhere is there evidence of the disgusting, racist garbage that we've been reading on this page. You're probably right. It's someone who thinks he's being funny when all he's showing is his stupidity. We should just all ignore it and use this site for the purpose of bringing together all friends with roots in ENY. Hopefully, Pam will delete this trash as she did on the open board. Hope to hear from Jeff grads 1966, Gershwin grads, 1963. Best to all, Ellen (Miller) Kaufman.

I don't believe the person who is representing himself as Derrick Bonner is really Derrick Bonner. Anyone can represent themselves as anyone else on the Web. I have reported this to the FBI and AOL, just a local phone :>). If you search for Derrick Bonner on the Web you'll find out he purports to be a writer. The exaggerated misspelling indicates a youngster who is trying to appeal to our baser instincts, he/she may not even be black. Your reactions are just what this youngster wants. A word to the "prankster", the Internet is not that annonymous, and there are consequences for your actions, no matter how much you protest that it was just a joke at a later date. This is no longer a joke.

I'm sorry if anyone was offended by my response to Derrick Bonner{except Derrick} however Ive seen his infantile rantings b4 and I guess it offends my sense of what this site is really about. So many fine memories so many fine people of all races and religions. Derrick, the people who correspond here have something so special, a comeraderie that has lasted for 4 or 5 decades Most all of us knew each other or are known to one another thru mutual friendships. How many places do you think exist where people can pick up a conversation after thirty years and continue as if it was yesterday when they last spoke!! So Derrick, what I really want to say is don't be jealous, don't attempt to soil our niche with foul epithets and racist remarks remember the old saw, "If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all!!!!!"

Alicia Martuge here born in Brownsville 40 years ago. From Jan. 1963 to Dec.1967 lived at 240 Wortman Apt. 1C. Then my brother was born Aug.1967 and in January 1968 moved to 570 Stanley Ave Apt.2G.Looking for the following people: Mildred Molina(570 Stanley, Apt.2C), Angelita Roman of 580 Stanley, and sisters Latisha and Barri Martin. Also looking for the following that went to PS306: Danny Napolitano, Roy Iskowitz, Robin Diamond. My favorite teacher was Mrs. Flanagan(5th grade, 1971-1972). Went to George Gershwin JHS in 1973-1974 but didn't work out. Moved out on Monday Aug.12, 1974 to Midwood and graduated from Midwood HS in 1978.I miss the Spinerama record store on Pennsylvania Ave-they sold PROMO records! Also miss the Penway cinema before it went porno. I also loved TSS-that store was THE BOMB! Unfortunately I grew up battered and abused and now I have schitzophrenia. When my last place in Bensonhurst got sold, I moved to Seth Low Projecs in Borwnsville JUST FOUR BLOCKS WHERE I WAS BORN! Knew I was born on ENY Avenue but I know better. So I am back at the projects, less than a couple of miles where I grew up. Was unpopular but I loved every mintue of Linden Houses. Did you know Sam Moore (of Sam & Dave) performed at Linded Park right across from 570?!? As for the brotha who wants to string us up at Stanley & Vermont, that's cool-that corner had a fine rosebush there! See ya at any reunions! Alicia:)

Steve Lang here. The ENY I remember was full of contradictions. We had racially and ethnicly integrated gangs and race riots. Been awhile since I signed in here and I had forgotten the thrill of it all! Have heard from some dear old boys and girls as a result of this and it is so sweet. And now, along comes a note from none other than Skippy Zeiger! Wow! How can I ever explain the likes of ENY and the projects to my five living darling Southern sons? Impossible as it really is even to explain to my Rockville Centre husband! Turned 50 on 2/28-- whatta shock! Though my oldest is in college -- I actually have two year old twins as well! Probably the oldest mom with the youngest kids at this site! Oh what I wouldn't give for a Butterfly Shrimp or some Rice and Gravy from that Chinese place on Linden Blvd right about now... BTW, I lived at 804 Ashford, 765 Stanley, went to 273 (Mrs. Bronitsky, Just For Fun/Sonny Fox), 166 and Jefferson. Would be really warm and wonderful to see everyone some day! My best to all, Ann

Hi all. It's been awhile since I last checked in. I see that Sherry Cener wrote a "glowing review" of the Little Isidore & the Inquistors Show @ Wilson's last week. On behalf of all the Formans, thank you kindly. You can check out the schedule of future shows on the Little Isidore website. It has been a trip going down memory lane with her and David. A picture of me at four years old or so in front of 526 Pennsylvania Ave. with Renee Julian and the beautiful Sarah Magit (forgive if I've mis-spelled her name) was just incredible! The pic of David and Sherry from 1953 was a hoot. That's all for now

As one of the original decendents of East New York, arriving on the Mayflower and first settling on Stanley Ave. and then Ashford Street, I am honored to be in the company of such esteemed former inhabitants of these mean streets.I have fond memories of spending my lunch hour when attending George Gershwein JHS at the Cozy Bar,but few memories after that. Oh, yes, then discussing Hegel and Kant with Patsy at Bella Pizzeria- now there was a man with a biting intellect and a mean marinara sauce... and all for 15 cents a slice. Such fine memories of those halcyon days, when life was full of childhood pleasures, pains, and salty pretzels. Yes, we all share a common thread and have all gone on to live our lives, some of us already grandparents, some doctors, some lawyers, some felons. It is an honor for me to share that thread with each of you. I honor our past as I honor each of our lives today. May God bless each of us and may God bless East New York.

Hi Everyone, Well it is certainly a thrill when you connect with friends from the past and I would really like to tell you about an incredible experience I recently experienced. A couple of months ago, I got an email from David Forman, he and I were great friends from ENY when we were very young. He and I have been emailing each other for a couple of months now and the same with his younger sister Laura. In fact Laura and I had lunch about one month ago. We had not seen each other I would say since about the late 50's or early 60's. Well David is also the lead of a very successful band called "Little Isidore and Inquistors," which I might add my best friend Reva Shorowitz and I had the pleasure of seeing him perform last night at Wilsons on 79th and Amsterdam. David and I have not seen each other also since those early days in ENY. Well what a thrill it was to catch up on some old times as well as see "one terrific" show. It was so great we stayed for both of the shows. It is something that should not be missed. He is truly a remarkable talent as well as being one terrific human being. We all had a blast and it would be great if the next time he is performing more ENYorkers would show up. talk about a trip down memory lane. But in all seriousness, the show is great and I can't recommmend it highly enough. Sorry for this being so long, but it is something that I really wanted to share with the rest of you. thanks for listening. Sherry

Someday we'll all get together and talk of the old days. Passing by ENY brings back a lot of memories. When I pass Jefferson and PS 174, I see the black and white images of the past. I do remember the AV squad and Mr. Rachlin's class. And film strips...A few years ago I was discussing the value of the internet and education and connectivity with a friend. He commented that maybe the internet was nothing more than the current version of film strips. But I countered that film strips brought us together. The dark room, the teacher narrating, or the kids reading. And something special about the AV squad. And assembly. Yes, Pitler and satan do ring a bell. But we also did things our kids don't do anymore: pledge of allegience, singing patriotic songs. And those white shirts. How things have moved full circle with the adoption of uniforms.

Remeber those great movies we used to see once a week. I remeber all those those names you mentioned. P.S 213 was a great school. Mr Applebaum was the principal and Mr Fine was the Asst principal. Anybody remeber Mr Bash and Mr Green? Would love to hear from some old friends. One last thought reember Mrs Pitler and how she ran asembly every Fri? I swear I think she was satan.

Just did a quick scan and found email references for the following 6th grade classmates in the 2000 archives: Charles Katzenstein, Ed Balaban, Alan Kaufman, Art Shapiro, Allen Freed, Harley Broe, Janis Barshefsky, Faine Beckerman, Ilene Radish. Late one night last week, I found the one of the Bornfeld twins and Barry Goldberg as well. Any other class 6-13 members, PS 213, 1964 who have signed in? Looking forward to hearing from you and collecting the email addresses so we can locate the rest of the class. We're at least a third of the way there! Hey, if you are a sibling and are able to send information along, please do so! I know where Dana Levine and Amy Zimmerman can be located, as I continued into JHS and HS with them, after leaving 213.

Hey, ENY people. Haven't been on for quite some time. Jefferson '70 , Gershwin '67, 190, lived in 285 Cozine, then 630 Stanley, older brother Jack. How about the great softball games at Gershwin park on Saturdays...the football games on the rocky field, the lunch tables going out the windows at Jefferson, the Biltmore, the appetizing store on Van Siclen where the counter guy would eat a sample of whatever you were buying, Bella Pizza, fires in the incenerators in the projects. Aaah, the good old days! Would be great to hear from some of you!!

p.S. 213 has so many happy memories. I still have my class photos that the East New York Savings bank gave to classes that had %100 savings envelopes handed in each week. I attended P.S. 213 from 1942 to 1949. I cannot believe that I still remember my teahers names. K Miss Stitt and Miss Mc Carthur, 1&2 Mrs Ladley, Grade 3 Miss Rosenheck, Grade 4 Mrs. Joselle, Grade 5 Mrs. Borst, Grade 6 Mrs, Joselle. When i look at the class pictures from grade 5 and 6 it seems as if it were only last year that i was there. Hey, welcome to 2001. I haven't been on the ENY Projects website in awhile but all this talk of reunions is making me itchy for more memories. I'm the middle aged mom of two beautiful daughters ages 5 and 7, married for almost 22 years to an upstate guy. This website has brought so many of my old Junior High and High School buddies in touch with me it's been alot of
fun. E-Mail me if you remember "cb" or my brother Irwin.
